Music returns to ELE USAL Strasbourg with La Paloma

On June 14th at 7:00 p.m., music returns to ELE USAL Strasbourg with a very special concert. After the success of their previous visit, the group La Paloma is back to offer us an evening full of music, history, and emotion.

Discover La Paloma

La Paloma is a musical project born in February 2022, formed by Sara, Camélia, and Félix. These three musicians, who already had experience playing together, decided to join forces to explore a very specific repertoire: Spanish revolutionary songs written during or in connection with the Civil War and Franco’s dictatorship.

The group was driven by two motivations. On the one hand, musical interest: these songs, passed down through oral tradition, allow for endless reinterpretations. On the other hand, they share an intellectual and political affinity, since these are songs of freedom, hope, and resistance against fascism — songs that resonated throughout Spain and Europe in the 1930s and beyond. These are songs that look toward a better future and invite group singing. La Paloma’s characteristic polyphony brings to life the voices of fighters past and present.

Sara, Camélia, and Félix perform these songs purely for pleasure. What was meant to be a one-time concert turned into new invitations to play in bars and activist festivals. Although the repertoire has evolved over time, their spirit and motivation remain intact.

In their performances, their voices blend to ensure the polyphony pays tribute to the stories told in the songs. They are accompanied by two guitars, and Félix sometimes adds rhythm with a cajón. They often hand out small songbooks with lyrics and French translations so the audience can join in and sing along.

A must-see event

Music is a bridge between cultures and languages, and at ELE USAL Strasbourg we want Spanish to be lived beyond the classroom. This concert is a unique opportunity to enjoy an authentic cultural experience in Strasbourg, practice Spanish, and dive into history through music.
