WHY TAKE A PLACEMENT TEST?
In accordance with indicators 4 and 8 of the Qualiopi standard and the Labour Code (Art. R.6323-12), ELE USAL Strasbourg conducts a personalised assessment of each student’s level and needs BEFORE enrolment.

Regulatory framework
Pre-positioning is a regulatory requirement for:
– CPF (Personal Training Account) training courses – Decree No. 2018-1332.
– Professional Transition Projects (PTP).
– Training courses funded by OPCO, France Travail, and regional authorities.
– Any continuing professional development activity.
Qualiopi Indicator 4: Analysis of the beneficiary’s needs.
Qualiopi Indicator 8: Positioning at the start of training.
WHO MUST TAKE THE TEST?
✅ You MUST take the test if:
– You have already studied Spanish (at school, university, private lessons, etc.).
– You have never taken a course at ELE USAL Strasbourg.
– You register for a CPF or funded training course (OPCO, PTP, etc.).
– Your last level test was more than 6 months ago.
❌ You are EXEMPT from the test if:
– You are a complete beginner (no knowledge of Spanish).
– You have already taken courses at ELE USAL Strasbourg within the last 12 months.
– You took our placement test less than 6 months ago.
⚠️ Important: Even if you are exempt from the written test, an educational interview is still mandatory to validate your enrolment and define your objectives.
COMPOSITION OF THE PLACEMENT TEST
The test is free, mandatory and confidential. It consists of two complementary parts in accordance with Qualiopi requirements.
1️⃣ WRITTEN PART (30-45 minutes)
Format: Online questionnaire (multiple-choice questions + exercises)
Skills assessed:
– Reading comprehension: Reading a variety of texts.
– Grammar: Verb tenses, conjugations, syntactic structures.
– Vocabulary: General and thematic vocabulary.
– Writing: Producing short sentences.

2️⃣ ORAL PART (15-20 minutes)
Format: Individual interview with a trainer
Skills assessed:
– Listening comprehension: Ability to understand simple or complex questions.
– Oral expression: Fluency, pronunciation, richness of vocabulary.
– Interaction: Ability to hold a spontaneous conversation.
– Needs and objectives: Your expectations, motivations, professional or personal plans.

POSITIONING PROCESS
STEP 1: Online written test
Access the test via the link: level test
- Complete the questionnaire (30-45 mins)
Receive your indicative score by email
STEP 2: Making an appointment for the oral exam
1. Send an email to info@strasbourg-eleusal.com with:
– Full name.
– Written test results.
– Your availability
– Preferred method (telephone/video conference/in person)
2. We will confirm the slot within 48 hours.
STEP 3: Individual oral interview (15-20 mins)

ÉTAPE 4 : Résultats et recommandations
At the end of the oral interview, you will immediately receive:
✅ Your CEFR level: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2
✅ Course recommendation: Group corresponding to your level
✅ Personalised advice: Goals to achieve, estimated duration
✅ Registration details: Procedure, fees, start dates
CEFR LEVELS (EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK)
All our courses are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), an internationally recognised standard.
📚 Level A: Basic user
A1 – Discovery
– Understand and use familiar expressions.
– Introduce yourself and ask simple questions.
– Communicate in a simple manner if the other person speaks slowly.
A2 – Intermediate
– Understand isolated sentences on familiar topics.
– Exchange simple and direct information.
– Describe one’s immediate surroundings.
📗 Level B: Independent user
B1 – Threshold
– Understand the main points of a clear conversation.
– Cope with most situations encountered when travelling.
– Describe an event, an experience, express an opinion.
B2 – Advanced
– Understand the main points of concrete and abstract topics.
– Communicate spontaneously and fluently with native speakers.
– Express yourself clearly and in detail on a wide range of subjects.

C1 – Proficient
– Understand long and demanding texts.
– Express oneself spontaneously and fluently without having to search for words.
– Use the language flexibly and effectively.
C2 – Proficiency
– Understand effortlessly practically everything read or heard.
– Express oneself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely.
– Near-native command of the language.

💼 CPF and funded training courses: Legal obligation
For funded training courses (CPF, OPCO, PTP, France Travail), prior assessment is mandatory and must be:
✅ Formalised in a signed document.
✅ Free of charge for the beneficiary.
✅ Attached to the funding application.
✅ Describing: Skills acquired, needs identified, personalised pathway, appropriate duration.
Article R.6323-12 of the Labour Code: The preliminary assessment identifies the beneficiary’s existing skills and proposes a personalised and tailored training programme.
AFTER POSITIONING: REGISTRATION
1. Assessment of your level
You will receive by email:
– Your validated CEFR level
– Course recommendations (group, timetable, dates)
– Detailed teaching programme
– Fees and payment terms
2. Choice of training course
Depending on your level, you can register for:
Group classes (3-8 participants)
– Levels A1.1 to C2
– 30 hours over 10 weeks (3 hours/week)
– Monday-Thursday, 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Private lessons
– All levels
– Flexible hours according to your availability

– Specific modules to prepare for certifications

3. Finalising registration

Deadline: Registration must be completed at least 7 days before the start of the course.

❌ It does NOT officially validate a level of language proficiency.
❌ It CANNOT be used for a CV, job application or official recognition.

✅ They are used solely to guide you towards the most suitable course.
✅ They enable us to personalise your training programme.
🎓 To officially certify your level of Spanish
If you wish to obtain an internationally recognised certification, you must pass:
DELE (Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language)
– Issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education
– Recognised worldwide
– Unlimited lifetime validity
– Registration RS 6302 France Compétences
– All levels A1 to C2

❓ Is there a charge for the placement test?
No, the test is 100% free. It is a service included in our registration process.
❓ How long does the entire test take?
– Written section: 30-45 minutes (online, at your own pace)
– Oral section: 15-20 minutes (interview with an instructor)
– Total: Approximately 1 hour
❓ Can I only take the written part?
No, both parts are mandatory for a reliable assessment. The oral part is essential for evaluating your oral expression and comprehension.
❓ Do I need to prepare for the test?
No, no preparation is necessary. The test assesses your actual current level, not your preparation skills.
❓ What happens if I disagree with my level?
You can discuss this with your trainer during the oral interview. The final level is always validated jointly with you.
❓ Can I retake the test if I am not satisfied?
Yes, you can retake the test, but we recommend waiting at least 6 months to see real progress.
❓ Will the test results appear on my training certificate?
No, the placement test is strictly confidential and internal. Only your final level after training can appear on your certificate of completion.
❓ Can I take the test if I live abroad?
Yes! The written part is online and the oral part can be done by videoconference.
❓ Is the test compulsory for CPF training courses?
Yes, it is a legal requirement for all funded continuing professional development courses (CPF, OPCO, PTP, etc.).
❓ How long are the test results valid for?
The results are valid for 6 months. After that, we recommend retaking the test to update your level.
