13 Sep Do you want to travel for free across Europe?
Hello young adventurers! Are you 18 years old and dreaming of exploring Europe? The DiscoverEU program is here to make your travel dreams come true! Explore Europe with DiscoverEU: An opportunity not to be missed!
What is DiscoverEU?
DiscoverEU is an initiative of the European Union (Erasmus+) that offers free tickets to travel by train across several European countries. Imagine discovering Paris, Rome, or Berlin with no transportation costs! Thanks to DiscoverEU, it’s possible.
The goal of the program is to provide a unique experience, discover new cultures, practice different languages, and create connections with other young Europeans. You can travel for up to 30 days between March 2025 and May 2026. It’s also possible to travel alone or with up to four friends.
This trip won’t just allow you to explore Europe, but it will also help you gain key skills such as independence, travel management, and responsibility. Participating in DiscoverEU is an enriching experience that can transform your personal and professional life.
DiscoverEU gives you the chance to explore the diversity of Europe, discover its cultural heritage and history, and meet people from across the continent. You’ll receive a travel pass and primarily travel by train.
As a selected traveler, you’ll also receive a DiscoverEU European Youth Card, giving you access to a wide range of discounts for cultural visits, learning activities, sports, local transportation, accommodation, and food.
How does it work?
If selected, you’ll receive a travel pass valid for up to 30 days. You’ll mainly travel by train, but other modes of transportation are available if necessary.
Who can participate?
To be eligible, you must:
– Be born between July 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006 (inclusive).
– Provide your ID card, passport, or residency permit number in the online application form.
– Be a citizen or resident* of one of the following countries:
– EU member states, including overseas countries and territories ou
– non-EU countries associated with the Erasmus+ program: Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, or Turkey.
You will then need to complete a quiz (unless you are applying as a group member).
If selected, you can travel for a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 30 days between March 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026.
If you have a disability or a health issue that makes traveling difficult, you’ll receive assistance.
Can I travel with friends?
Yes, of course! You can travel alone or form a group with up to 4 friends, provided they meet the eligibility requirements above. They will use your application code to submit their own application.
You can also coordinate your travel plans with other DiscoverEU travelers! The DiscoverEU Facebook group is a great place for that. Join the group now to chat with other participants.
Once you’ve been selected, the national Erasmus+ agencies will help you connect with others and provide information by organizing meetings and meet-ups for travelers before departure.
How to apply?
The next application session will take place from October 2, 2024, at 12:00 PM to October 16, 2024, at 12:00 PM (Brussels time). Visit the European Youth Portal to fill out the online form and take the quiz. If you’re curious, adventurous, and ready to learn, this is the perfect opportunity for you!
